Mary Cassatt

First of all, congratulations to all the ones who found the painter so quickly! Especially to Alicia, the fist one to guess it.

You were right. The painter is Mary Cassatt and she is considered an impressionist. Do you like impressionism?

This is her self portrait.

Mary Stevenson Cassatt (May 22, 1844 – June 14, 1926) was an American painter and printmaker. She lived much of her adult life in France, where she first befriended Edgar Degas and later exhibited among the Impressionists.

Cassatt often created images of the social and private lives of women, with particular emphasis on the intimate bonds between mothers and children.

Have a look at Alicia’s comment, she has included a wonderful presentation with some of Cassatt’s paintings! Thanks, Alicia.

better than impresionism was modernism, are not?

    • Laura says:

Well, yes they can also be considered modernist paintings. Remember she didn’t belong to the impressionist movement in France but she was very influenced by it.
